The History Behind SynTel™ LLC
SynTel™ LLC co-founder, Steve Smith was doing direct mail marketing for banks in 1992. He and co-founder Harry Herget realized that as banks began using check imaging technology, the standard page format would offer mail automation opportunities. The savings potential for mailings done by banks on a monthly and quarterly basis was tremendous.

The idea was not refined until 1998 when Harry and Steve met Jim Melescue, at a conference at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Steve and Harry recognized Jim’s talent as a computer programmer, while Jim understood the tremendous potential of their idea.

Development of AutoMail® took two years before the first installation in January 2000. The first customer for AutoMail® was a bank in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. The next installation was First National Bank of Sharp County in Ash Flat, Arkansas.

The software was an immediate hit. Besides providing maximum postage savings, the software also reduced the amount of handling, and reliance on expensive postage metering equipment. AutoMail® also simplified the difficult process of making sure that all items met the strict US Postal standards that allow postage discounts. These features have allowed SynTel™ LLC to grow from two initial installations to almost four hundred installations throughout the United States.

As our reputation for developing quality software has grown, our base of partnerships with leading bank vendors has grown along with it. We are proud to be associated with most major software providers in the financial services industry (see our Partners page). While SynTel™ LLC has focused primarily on financial institutions, the scope is broadening to other organizations that do regular standardized mailings.
